I never had much reason to think about women’s trends and maternity fashion until three years ago when I fell pregnant with my first child Leo. I did not even know if maternity fashion had trends.
Luckily for the first months I was able to just buy one size bigger than my normal clothes but when I hit the five month mark, I needed to make some fashion choices.
Firstly, did I want the bump to show. Was I a tight- t-shirts and leggings person or more floaty discreet maternity dresses. Obviously every pregnant bump is beautiful in its own special way but I must admit that milk white tummies (I hate the word belly, especially if its paired with beer) with greenish veins make me feel sickly, even if its my own, so I chose feminine, floaty empire lined outfits.
The choices you make for your maternity outfits are probably harder than any other fashion decision. Firstly you don’t want to spend thousands of pounds on a wardrobe of clothes which you are only going to be wearing for 9 months…hopefully. Secondly you are going to want to look stylish and trendy, but comfort needs to be paramount.
So where do you start? Generally in the first few months and definitely in the last few months your too tired, sick and hot to be bothered hoofing around the high streets for hours at a time. Therefore I suggested online clothes shopping or picking out a virtual wardrobe. It takes all the strain and stress out of shopping and you can switch on your laptop, grab a cup of tea and put your feet up.
I love the online portals which cover a number of different high street shops of varying price ranges. This way you can pick out one item, ie dresses and look at what all shops have to offer.
Identify what you are going to be doing over the next nine months. Are you mainly needing work outfits or are you lucky enough to be lounging around for the duration of this pregnancy. Do you need to consider Christmas and New Year clothes or do you need to invest in cool summer clothes if heavily pregnant during August.
I lived in dresses whilst pregnant. They make things so much easier. You don’t have annoying waist bands pulling round your bump and frequent visits to the bathroom are much quicker with a dress than maternity jeans. Furthermore you can wear support tights underneath which greatly reduce the risk of varicose veins and other hideous things. Pick versatile items. Dresses made from jersey material are ideal as they are wearable from winter through to summer. One big fashion advantage for pregnant women at the moment is the Maxi dress. You can look totally on-trend and be completely comfortable. Many designers even make them with a slightly shorter front than back in order to avoid nasty trips and falls.
Think carefully when choosing shoes. I was convinced I would be in my sky-scraper heels right until giving birth, but eventually you will give in to comfort. And at the moment flat does not have to mean frumpy. Think brogues and military styled boots.
What would you do if you found a run in your tights, knee highs, or stockings? The easiest thing to do would be to buy a new pair. But, if you are low on cash, you can fix your tights up yourself. All you need is a little bit of clear nail polish and that should do the trick. Any brand of clear nail polish should do. You can purchase clear nail polish from drug stores like CVS and Rite Aid. You just run the clear nail polish along the line in your tights and the polish will glue the run in the tights back together.
Tights are an article of clothing a woman cannot live without. Knee highs and thigh highs are especially comfortable if you don’t like the feeling of a huge elastic band around your waist. Wearing full length tights can be a bit bothersome and especially if you are wearing them throughout the day, and in the office, it can start to feel like it is cutting off your circulation. You can wear knee highs and thigh highs with long and short skirts and dresses. They can be found in the colors black, beige, brown, and just a clear material.
Some women have multiple pairs of tights so they don’t run into the problem of having many runs and nothing to wear. You can usually buy a pack of knee highs or thigh highs for just a few dollars at many women’s clothing shops. Stockings are thicker tights, and they are an article of women’s clothing that can be worn in the winter time and colder parts of the year. Stockings can be found at many clothing shops like Marshalls, Ross, and JC Penny. You can also find tights at shoe shops.
If you are creative, you can wear tights in different patterns. You can find kids’ tights with heart patterns, balloons, smiley faces, and flowers. Women’s tights usually come in simple patterns like stripes and circles, and you can find argyle tights as well.
If you wear your nylons frequently, they may get runs in them so you may just have to replace them if you wear them on a daily basis. You can also sew your tights up with a needle and thread if you are the crafty type. If you have thread that is the same color as your tights, this could work. But, you don’t want to sew up your tights if you only have red thread, for instance, and your tights are black. If you don’t mind spending the time sewing and want to save a few bucks, this might be a good option for you.
Women wear tights on a daily basis so it is good to know how to take care of them if they are giving you trouble. You can either throw them out (which is the easiest option), fix them up with some clear nail polish, or sew them with a needle and thread. Good luck with those tights!
For some, fashion is getting more and more complicated but for the others it is getting more fun and exciting. For instance, it is already acceptable if you team up knitwear and regular trousers. And wool jumpers are also no exception because they are becoming a big comeback today. Although in the past this kind of fabric used to be associated with older people’s clothing but not anymore now as many clothes today have already undergone a lot of make overs like sweaters, cardigans and jumpers. Even styles, designs and colors have been modified in order to create a modern and preppy look.
Wool has been introduced in the fashion world for a long time and back then it was only ideal for older persons. And since it has been re introduced, more unique colors are incorporated wool is getting more fans as well. As a matter of fact the use of wool has become widespread and has even hit several catwalk shows. It has indeed replaced and took over man made fabrics. And now wool jumpers are also increasingly becoming famous all over the world.
The funny thing about the popularity of wool is that even Prince Charles got involved in this promotion campaigns in an effort to encourage manufacturers to use products that are environment friendly. And the designers are now under pressure to develop more creative ideas and impressive skills to turn classic looks to more modern and stylish ones using wool as the fabric of choice. There are just so many reasons why wool should be preferred by many when it comes to cardigans, sweaters and jumpers over other types of fabric.
Wool jumpers are perfect during cold seasons because they are good enough to keep you warm and comfortable. Do not believe if the say that that certain style is already a goner because classic looks have been re designed nowadays and they are becoming the latest trend. That is just how the fashion industry works. Designers use their creative ideas in order to produce something that becomes a hot fashion item and that does not exclude those that were considered a thing of the past. So if you have articles that you consider ancient in your closet, think again before you decide o throw them because they might haunt you when they come back and become a big hit in the world of fashion.
Vintage fashion refers to styles which have been recycled from previous eras, and there are vintage outfits to suit any interests, from the 20’s through to the 80’s. Vintage has seen a major revival over the last few years, and is a trend which will keep your style unique and timeless. Many of the recent catwalk shows have showcased vintage trends, with top designers creating wondrous replica designs.
Some tips to remember before you go looking for any vintage items of clothing, is to consider what exactly you are looking for. Are you interested in a classic piece from the 1920’s, or maybe the hippy style from the 1960’s is more up your street. You also want to think about why you are buying your vintage clothing, whether it be for a special occasion or just for the sake of collecting a unique piece of clothing. Knowing exactly what you want is half the battle to finding the perfect vintage outfit, and there are looks to cater for all needs.
The next thing to think about is where you are going to find your vintage clothing. As vintage has become so popular lately, you will often find a lot of niche vintage markets, where you can pick up a piece of unique clothing at an inexpensive price. There are many shops on the high street which also have a collection of vintage pieces, although you may have to pay a bit extra for these.
When shopping for vintage, you really have to be patient, as it may take some time before you find the perfect item, and it can be a lot more complex than the clothes shopping you are used to. The beauty of vintage clothing is that it is a trend which is timelessly fashionable. The fabrics and patterns are unique, so have a good feel of these in order to determine which clothes will make you feel most comfortable.
Always try the clothing on before you purchase it and be aware of it’s condition. It can range from being in mint condition (just like new) or good condition (some repairs needed.) If you feel a bit weary of trying second hand vintage clothes on, then wear your other clothes under it, to get a feel of what it looks like and if it suits you. It may also be an idea to take someone along with you when you’re out shopping for your vintage clothes. As long as it’s someone who will give you an honest opinion. If you are working from a tight budget, then it’s a good idea to look at replica designs, as these are usually a lot more affordable.
Current fashion trends tend to mix up vintage with a more modern look, which will streamline your look, and make it more wearable for all different occasions. You may want to wear vintage with a popular key trend for the season, as this will keep you looking stylish, but will also give your look a unique edge.
Fashion is known for being an equal-opportunity industry. There is no gender discrimination, and throughout the years there have been many brilliant male AND female designers, models, stylists, and modeling experts. Surely, if you explored around the campus of any fashion college, you would find both male and female students, male and female faculty, and male and female designers referenced in class. However, it is a few women in the fashion industry who are really on top of their game, and everybody else’s game too! So let us acknowledge a few of the most important women in fashion, and as fashion school students or fashion lovers, feel grateful for the work that they do…
1. Anna Wintour. One of the most feared and revered women in all of fashion design is the British-born Anna Wintour. Currently, Wintour serves as editor-in-chief of American Vogue, a position she has held since the year 1988 when she took over New York’s Conde Nast Publications. Once Wintour had started at Vogue, she set out to make refreshing changes to the magazine. Her goal was to keep the magazine’s number one status in high fashion and prestige, while finding a wear to take down the tone from untouchable heights, and make it so that real, every-day women could relate more to it’s style choices and content. The first Vogue cover with Wintour as editor came out in November of 1988, and featured a model photographed in simple, faded, acid-wash jeans and a ten thousand dollar jewel-encrusted sweater designed by Christian Lacroix. This new approach to fashion was a whopping success with Vogue employees and readers because it represented the blend of high fashion and street style. This was the real way that real women put clothes together. Since then, Wintour has continually re-invented herself and her magazine with every new issue. Additionally, she has helped to encourage and support the work of young, fresh designers, and has often used her influence in the fashion world to promote the awareness of many social issues.
2. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. In the 1990’s, the Olsen twins were famous as actresses on the hit television series, Full House, as well as many other movies that played a huge role in the lives of teen girls all over the world growing up in the 1990’s. As they grew older, the child stars blossomed into beautiful women, and they became fashion icons for the entire world to emulate. However, while their own high fashion wardrobes are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars out of their enormous fortunes, they set out to create brands that would be accessible to young girls all over the economic spectrum. As a result, their tween and teen clothing and accessory lines are sold at extremely modest prices in Wal-Mart stores all over the world. The Mary Kate and Ashley brand has evolved into a billion-dollar empire that includes clothing, accessories, fashion dolls and DVD’s.
Anna Wintour and the Olsen twins are just three of several high-powered, forward-thinking women in the fashion industry. They have set unprecedented examples of how to bring your own intelligence and creativity to life through fashion design, and share your ideas with the world. Now, women in fashion schools all over the world are aspiring to learn from them and do the same thing.
Many people view the fashion world as something that is superficial and skin deep. However, even fashion can be used as a means to save the environment. Several crusades are now increasingly becoming popular that support the green movement, or the manufacture, use, and reuse of environmentally friendly materials or what is called the “eco friendly” products. The world of women’s fashion is even making a statement by campaigning for the use and purchase of eco friendly clothing.
The idea of eco friendly clothing has several aspects into it. Cotton is one of the most commonly used materials in the production of textiles and fabrics. When growing cotton, farmers have to use pesticides to protect the plant and improve the quality and production of the raw material. However, we know that the use of pesticides is harmful to the environment. Therefore, being eco friendly would mean to stop using these harmful chemicals in the production of cotton. Dyes are also chemicals that are being utilized by the textile industry to provide colors to the fabric. Because these are also considered to be harmful both to the environment and the workers who are applying them, the use of these dyes should also have to be done away with in the process of textile manufacturing.
Recycling is also another way to be environmentally consciences. Used clothing and fabrics, and even plastic bottles, can be reused and/or recycled to produce more clothes. This will significantly impact the waste disposal problem that the clothing industry incurs. Because clothing do not really decompose easily, when they are disposed, they serve to fill up dumpsters and garbage disposal areas and contribute to pollution and waste management crises. Therefore, the materials that are used to create the clothes should also be of high quality so that they will not easily get old and worn off and thus disposed of. Another aspect of being environmentally friendly in terms of the fashion industry is to ensure that the materials and textiles that are being used by the designers were manufactured by companies that provide fair trade. This means that the workers of these said companies and manufacturing plants must provide a decent and comfortable environment for their work force. The workers must also be adequately paid in proportion to the amount of work and services they have provided.
Some creators and designers of women’s fashion were at first adamant about the idea. They feared that the quality of the fabric created from such environmentally friendly methods may not be as good and that it may be hard to work on. However, upon seeing the finished materials, they realized that they are indeed very workable and are even of very high quality. At present, you can find fashion shows that feature environmentally safe lines of clothing; in the mall windows, there are displays specific for eco friendly fashion; and even accessories are now being created to follow this trend. Fashion has indeed never been so meaningful as this.
Color blocking takes using colors for fashion to another level. You want to use colors to bring out the most fabulous you? Grab your color wheel! The following are six (6) very simple tips to help you get started!
#1: Pick two (2) colors.
Choose at most three colors and stick to that. A simple two-color look is more effective and sassier than combining multitudes of colors which can possibly result to a colorful, messy chaos. For a harmonious get-up, group colors of the same shade together. Separate the bright from the dulls. Use neutral shades for everything else, like your jewelry, shoes, bag and other accessories.
A wider contrast between the two colors brings about a more playful, refreshing get-up. A lesser contrast renders a more sophisticated aura.
#2: Use one that complement your skin tone, eyes and hair.
Pick shades that are opposite to the color of your skin, hair and eyes. Do not use hues that match your body tones because that would result to a dull, boring look. Colors that are complementary to your skin and hair make your clothes stand out and give you a brighter shine.
#3: It should highlight a body part.
Color blocking can be used to highlight your figure. Wear a brighter or lighter shade on the body part you want to bring out–your upper torso, for example. Wear a dull or darker shade on the part that you do not want to highlight.
#4: A vertical setting give you a slender look.
It is not only for those with tall height. For those with a petite stature, color blocking vertically works like a charm. This alternative to the more common horizontal blocking works like an optical illusion and effectively gives you a taller, slimmer look.
Wear two combination vertically. For example, black under a vividly colored overtop creates a lean line, making you look taller and more slender.
#5: Black and white is a classic.
Blocking still works for those who are scared of colors! If you think your choice does not bring the needed fashion desire, it is always safe to go with black and white. This classic combination never fails.
#6: Always be confident.
The best makeup anyone can wear is their confidence. Hear this out: if you do not think this suits your style and personality, it is more fashion-sensible to pass and look for an alternative. A classy, color blocked get-up has no use when you are shy, right? If you think otherwise, go out there and flaunt your looks. Be proud!
Ponchos have come down from the high plains and back into high fashion on to the catwalks this season.
Gone are the heavy, horse-blanket style ponchos of yesteryear, replaced by delicate fabrics and sexy styles that complement every body. Fashion ponchos hide a multitude of sins.
Whether you choose silky, sheer and sexy, or embroidered ethnic style, the poncho can be adapted for all sizes and all occasions.
Your fashion poncho can be thrown over a pair of jeans for a chic, casual look, or dress it up with a glittery brooch over your favorite little black dress for night time style.
The hot fashion trend straight from the catwalk was the shabby-chic boho-style fashion poncho, ornamented with embroidery, beads and sparkles. Or the casually elegant cashmere poncho, perfect with your favorite jeans.
Ponchos also come short and long this season. The chic little shrug-style poncho clasped or tied on the shoulder in soft knits and delicate lace was featured by many European designers for spring/summer. Also featured were longer, asymmetrical fashion ponchos in a rainbow-bright display of colors and patterns.
Handbags are the most preferred fashion accessory for every woman, varying from small to large sizes, used to carry their personal items. It’s a fashion accessory for women as well as a useful accessory that helps them carry all their necessities. Handbags come in various designs, shapes & sizes that could be used by women in various occasions.
There are various kinds of handbags that are apt for various occasions. A wrong kind of handbag carried by a woman at an unsuitable occasion completely distorts her appearance and fashion statement. So, women have always got to take care to match their handbags and the occasion they use if for.
Some of the different kinds of handbags are:
1. Clutch: A small rectangular purse without a handle to be hand held by women. Such clutches go well with formals and give a classy look. When carried by women wearing a saree, it’s great!
2. Satchels: It’s a bag with a long strap worn across the shoulder. It’s worn with casuals and most by students. Especially when worn with western outfits, it gives a classy look. It gives a trendy look to both guys & girls. It comes in various styles, patch works, embroidery, denim material and many more designs. It’s being preferred by majority of the youth.
3. Shoulder Strap Bag: It’s the bag preferred by 80% of the women today. Such bags come in a very wide variety in various styles & sizes. It consists of a short strap hung over the shoulders, it may consist of a single or a double strap. These bags are not suitable for formal outfits, but they go very well with semi formals and casuals.
4. Tote Bags: Tote bags are usually larger in size made up of materials such as jute, heavy canvas, heavy nylon and similar materials. But, these days, such bags are made from recycled materials. Such bags are very useful when we go to grocery shops and when we do some simple shopping. I would suggest people to go in for tote bags, since they are eco friendly and also affordable.
5. Duffel: These are long horizontal cylindrical bags, similar to clutches that give a very grand look to the person carrying it. They are mostly embedded with stones or have embroidery designs giving a classy look. Duffels are apt to be carried in parties or functions.
6. Half moon bags (or) Hobo bags: Such bags are in a half moon shape made up of soft materials very apt to be carried with casual outfits. Such bags have a long strap to be hung around the shoulders. They go well with jeans, skirts and other casual outfits.
7. Muff: A small clutch like bag made up of fur, wool or velvet with compartments inside for holding various things and they’ve got no straps but a clip that’s got to be clutched. It has to be handheld which looks neat & good.
Therefore, every woman has to take care to select the bags apt for the occasion, be it a wedding party, casual outings, shopping, college going or any other visit. The bag women carry must suit the occasion and the outfit they are in. Since handbag is a vital fashion accessory, great care has to be taken while selecting them. Because they are capable of distorting the entire look of the person, or they can even misinterpret the fashion statement of a woman.
Camouflage pants, abbreviated as camo pants, are durable and fashionable clothing that are suitable for women who love the outdoors. Even though they were a reserve for the military and uniformed forces, the public started to wear camo jackets and pants in the 1970s to show their solidarity against the Vietnam War. Popularity of camo pants continued to grow through to the rebellion period in the ’90s when thousands of Punk girls and boys used this garment as a trademark. By the year 2000, camouflage pants were no longer associated with demonstrations and rebellions, but mutated into a must-have accessory, which stormed into the fashion industry with a vengeance. Even though Khaki pants were already in the market, the heightened need for tougher and fancier pants among the youth saw promotion of camouflage pants as an alternative fashion accessory. Nowadays, they are attainable in an array of designs, prints, and color patterns that can suit various interests.
In earlier years, women who wanted to explore the outdoors using camo pants had to buy smaller men sizes because of limited female versions. However, with advent of female
If you are a professional and work in an office environment that allows trendy women clothing, camo pants are a good option. You only have to match it with a crisp button-down shirt or pretty blouse, and a pair of high heels to highlight a professional look. Unlike male pants, make sure that everything that you wear is form-fitting. Thus, instead of wearing a boxy jacket, as is the norm, it is advisable that you go for a slim cardigan instead. As a result, your will flatter your curves, look, and feel sexy.
Even though the benefits of using camo pants are many, you must find quality products that suit all your needs. Research from many online and offline sources and seek referrals from family members and friends to help you through the process. Because camo pants do not stretch much, make sure that you have your correct hip and thigh measurement before spending money on any clothing. Ask a friend or professional tailor to help you through the process. If you intend to use your pants outdoors or for nature adventures, consider whether you need waterproof and or insulated designs to protect you from such adverse conditions. Overall, whatever you choose, make sure that it is comfortable and complements your personal style.
