Turns out it activates the Alternative User Input Text Input Processor (TIP) and the Microsoft Office Language Bar. Then delete all keys belonging to it, such as HKEY users and local Run keys. So I guess because of that, the "!*&?%@" ‘ctfmon' file was there all the time. The true ctfmon.exe file is a safe Microsoft Windows system process, called "CTF Loader". They even explictly say it can't be dynamically loaded and unloaded, just clearing the other "services" under Text Services wipes it right out. These machines have never had an earlier version of Office on them. What you can do though is uninstall the alternative user input feature from all text services. Removing CTFMON seemed to fix the problem. I've been trading blows with this issue (ctfmon) for as long as I have run XP. 90 seconds after I stumble onto the Geek, problem solved. ‘Nuff said.
